COOL COLON
:
Use a colon to emphasize a word, a phrase, or a sentence that explains or adds something to the main clause.
Examples:
Many people learn to read the old fashioned way: they practice.
Learning can be a bridge to a new world: fabulous fantasy!
SEMICOLON ;
Semicolons rock! You can use them to join two or more closely related independent clauses.
I did not call myself a poet;I told people I wrote poems.
Use a semicolon to set off independent clauses that are long or contain commas.
We waited all day in that wide line, tired travelers pressing in from all sides; and when we needed drinks or sandwiches, I would squeeze my way to the cafeteria and back.
